Nonthaburi, Thailand – CubiTan®, the next-generation smart gas container developed by Yachiyo Engineering (YEC) and Atomis, made a strong appearance at the National Science and Technology Fair 2026 (NST Fair 2026), held from August 15 to 23 at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi Province.
Building on Growing Momentum in Thailand
This year’s appearance follows a landmark Memorandum of Understanding signed in April 2026 between ENTEC (National Energy Technology Center), YEC, and Atomis, a milestone that has helped accelerate CubiTan®’s momentum in the Thai market. As in previous years, including last year’s fair, CubiTan® was featured within the Japan Pavilion’s Kyoto University booth. This year, however, that connection carried greater weight. Prof. Susumu Kitagawa’s 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of metal-organic frameworks (MOF) put a spotlight on the very research behind CubiTan®.
At the booth, the team explained to visitors how CubiTan® puts this MOF technology to work: it stores a large volume of gas at far lower pressure than a conventional steel cylinder, resulting in a lighter container that acts as a virtual pipeline, delivering methane gas — whether as natural gas or biogas. Visitor engagement was noticeably higher than in previous years, drawing government officials, industry professionals, and curious students eager to see the Nobel-winning technology put to practical use.
A Visit from Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister
On the opening day, August 15, the CubiTan® team had the honor of introducing the technology directly to Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand, who stopped by the booth. He showed strong interest in the real-world application of MOF technology, underscoring the growing recognition of next-generation gas storage as part of Thailand’s broader innovation and clean energy agenda.
